Imanu: Crafting the Future of Bass Music
Jonathan Immanuel Kievit (born November 14, 1998) — known professionally as Imanu — is a Dutch-Surinamese DJ and producer whose genre-bending approach has redefined bass music. Originally producing under the alias “Signal”, he broke into the scene as a teenager signed to the revered drum & bass collective Noisia’s label.
With the launch of his Imanu moniker in 2019, Kievit set out to transcend tempo-based boundaries, embracing elements of house, footwork, halftime and neurofunk to create what he calls “future breaks.” His breakout tracks include “It’s Our Destiny” (with KUČKA), “Aching (On a High)” (featuring LIA) and the collaborative EP PARADISE, which included single “Rush” (with Zeds Dead & KUČKA).
In 2022, IMANU released his debut full-length album UNFOLD via the label Deadbeats, highlighting his evolution into emotive, textured soundscapes evident in tracks like “Temper” (ft. LIA). Recognized by Beatport as one of the “NEXT” artists of 2021, IMANU’s vision has been backed by major platforms and tastemakers.
With performances at major festivals and a growing global presence, IMANU stands at the vanguard of modern bass music—blurring lines, defying categories, and resonating deeply with listeners around the world.
