Ekali: Sonic Architect of Emotion and Bass
Ekali, born Nathan Shaw, is a Canadian DJ and producer known for fusing emotional melodies with powerful bass, creating soundscapes that blur the line between beauty and chaos. Originally a member of indie band Said the Whale, Ekali transitioned to electronic music and quickly made waves with his lush production style and innovative remixes.
His breakout came with the viral hit “Unfaith”, which earned a feature on Drake’s “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” after being sampled on the track “Preach”. This catapulted Ekali into the global spotlight and led to a signing with OWSLA. He gained further recognition with the “Crystal Eyes” EP and collaborations with artists like Denzel Curry, Medasin, and ZHU. His debut album, “A World Away,” released in 2020, showcased a mature and cinematic sound that earned critical praise for its emotional depth and range.
Known for his powerful live sets and dedication to pushing genre boundaries, Ekali has performed at top festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Electric Forest. With his blend of atmospheric sound design, raw emotion, and heavy-hitting drops, Ekali continues to solidify his place as a standout force in the world of electronic music.
