Infected Mushroom: Psytrance Pioneers from Israel
Formed in Haifa, Israel in 1996, Infected Mushroom—comprised of Erez Eisen and Amit —have become one of electronic music’s most influential acts. Drawing on classical training and underground psy-trance roots, they built a sound that fuses heavy guitar riffs, Middle Eastern melodies, metal-inspired intensity and imaginative electronic production.
Their breakout hits include “Becoming Insane” and “Heavyweight”, both of which are widely regarded as genre-defining tracks. They’ve released acclaimed albums such as Legend of the Black Shawarma (2009) and Converting Vegetarians II (2015), the former peaking at No. 8 on Billboard’s Electronic chart.
Infected Mushroom’s accolades include multiple nominations for the MTV Europe Music Awards and recognition from DJ Awards for Best Live Act and Best Psytrance Track. They celebrated their 25-year anniversary in 2022 with the release of IM25, a kaleidoscopic album showcasing their exploratory approach and enduring relevance.
Widely cited as trailblazers of psytrance and beyond, Infected Mushroom continue to push boundaries both in the studio and on stage—bridging underground intensity with global dance culture.
