Chromeo: Funk Revivalists of the Modern Era
Chromeo is a Canadian electro-funk duo composed of David Macklovitch and Patrick Gemayel. Formed in Montreal in the early 2000s, the pair built a reputation for reviving the glossy, synth-driven funk of the 1980s while blending it with modern electronic production and witty, tongue-in-cheek lyrics.
Chromeo broke into the mainstream with their 2007 album Fancy Footwork, featuring standout tracks like “Fancy Footwork” and “Bonafied Lovin’.” They continued their success with hits such as “Night by Night,” “Jealous (I Ain’t With It),” and “Come Alive,” songs that became staples on dance floors and streaming playlists alike. Their 2014 album White Women earned a nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the Grammy Awards, marking a major milestone in their career.
Known for their energetic live performances and signature use of talk box and analog synthesizers, Chromeo has played major festivals including Coachella and Lollapalooza. With a distinctive blend of nostalgia and innovation, Chromeo has carved out a unique niche, earning critical acclaim and a devoted global fanbase.
