Bassrush presents: Culture Shock & Eliminate @ Bloom Nightclub (21+)
Let’s meetup for Culture Shock & Eliminate!
Culture Shock: Drum & Bass Innovator
James Pountney, better known as Culture Shock, is a British drum & bass DJ and producer who has built a powerful reputation over nearly two decades for crafting tracks that balance underground grit with broad appeal.
His early career took off with the release of The Vega EP in 2004 on Moving Shadow. He then signed to Ram Records in 2006, where he continued to release standout EPs like The Third Stage (2007) featuring tracks such as “Rework” (with Brookes Brothers), “Zeppelin,” and “Asteroids.” After a quieter period, Culture Shock returned in 2014 with remixes and original tracks such as “Raindrops” / “Troglodyte VIP”, followed by the widely supported single “City Lights” (feat. Bryn Christopher) in 2015, which had been part of his DJ sets for years before its official release. That song became BBC Radio 1’s “Track of the Day.”
More recently, his artist albums Sequence (2019) and Sequel (2022) pushed his sound further. Hits such as “Bunker”, “Renaissance”, “Visions”, “Lost”, and “Universe” have drawn acclaim, streaming millions of times. As a result, he performed a Radio 1 Essential Mix, and toured globally—North America, Australasia, Japan, South Africa, and Europe—building immersive live-visual shows like the VISIONS/AV tour.
Today, Culture Shock is regarded as one of the most consistent and respected figures in drum & bass, known for tracks that resonate with fans of both the underground and high-output festival stages.
Eliminate: Bass Music’s Experimental Trickster
Nathan “Eliminate” Merrill is a Los Angeles–based DJ and producer known for his boundary-pushing fusion of dubstep, trap, electro house, and drum & bass. His rise began in earnest when he signed with Disciple Recordings in 2018, quickly carving a reputation for genre-defying bass mayhem.
Eliminate’s 2019 Cyber Whale EP featured standout tracks like “Weeble Wobble” and “Them” (featuring Virus Syndicate), both dominating festival airwaves—“Weeble Wobble” landed in the Top 10 most-played electro house tracks at EDC Las Vegas that year. That same year, he released the eclectic Dead Sea EP and collaborated with heavy-hitters like Barely Alive and PhaseOne.
Known for his fearless experimentation, Eliminate’s approach is part composition, part laboratory session. His creative process blends spontaneous sound design and re-sampling—sometimes resulting in unexpected tracks that surprise even himself. Hits like “Playing With Fire”—originally conceived as a flute-y trap idea—evolved into a rave-ready dubstep anthem once vocals were introduced.
Throughout 2023, Eliminate continued his output with tracks like “Quickness”, “Mutation”, and “Playing With Fire,” reinforcing his identity as a mad scientist of modern bass.
With a flair for the unpredictable, festival-ready sounds, and a frequent presence in high-profile sets, Eliminate stands out as one of bass music’s most inventive and surprising talents.
