Let’s meetup for Juelz vs Chyl!
🎧 Juelz: The Bass Architect of Modern Trap
Juelz (real name Julian Ching and also known by the alias bbjuelz) is a Canadian-born electronic music producer and DJ who has carved out a formidable place in the trap and bass scene. Drawing on his classical training — he played violin and guitar beginning in childhood — Juelz seamlessly blends emotive melodies with hard-hitting drops to craft a sound that feels both nostalgic and cutting-edge.
He first made waves with his club-ready breakout track “Cocaine,” which helped earn him collaborations with artists like Josh Pan, Falcons, and Promnite. In 2018, he released the collaborative EP moneytalk with bbno$, and followed up with his Shanghai Nights EP on Fool’s Gold Records.
Perhaps his most celebrated work is the High Octane EP on RL Grime’s Sable Valley label, which dropped in 2020. The project features standout tracks like “Formula” (with RL Grime), “Defqon Bounce,” and “Drive-By City,” showcasing Juelz’s signature blend of cinematic atmospheres and trap aggression.
Juelz has earned serious respect from bass music tastemakers and fans — with support from RL Grime, A-Trak, and others, and big moments on stages at festivals like Beyond Wonderland.
Known for his versatility, Juelz continues to push the boundaries between hip-hop, electronic, and cinematic trap, positioning himself as one of the genre’s most compelling voices.
CHYL: Speed House’s High-Octane Pioneer
CHYL (real name Ruochen “Rachel” Shi) is a Chinese-Canadian electronic producer and DJ based in Los Angeles, renowned for blazing through dance music with her signature 150 BPM Speed House — a fast, bass-heavy, adrenaline-fueled sound.
Despite earning a finance degree from Columbia University, CHYL left the corporate world behind to pursue music full time. She honed her craft at ICON Collective, shaping her kinetic, motorsport-inspired aesthetic that mirrors her high-speed production style.
One of her breakthrough tracks, “Fool Me,” was released on Monstercat Uncaged and helped define her fast-paced sound. She struck a standout collaboration with Haus of Panda and MYLK on the speed-house anthem “Ignite.” Another fan favorite is “Bestie” (featuring Amber Na), a bass-house banger celebrating friendship.
In 2024, CHYL dropped her Sport Mode EP on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak label, a high-performance collection of 150 BPM tracks that fuse melodic energy with hard-hitting drops. Her rapid ascent has earned her support from genre heavyweights like Habstrakt, Ghastly, Wuki, JSTJR, and of course, Steve Aoki.
On the festival circuit, she’s commanded stages at events like HARD Summer, Countdown, and The Shrine, where her live sets feel like a sonic race to the finish line. As one of the leading voices in speed house, CHYL continues to push the boundaries of electronic music, proving there’s no brake on her creativity.
