Giolì & Assia: Melodic Techno’s World-Born Alchemists
Italian electronic duo Giolì & Assia, comprised of multi-instrumentalist Giolì and vocalist/songwriter Assia, emerged from Palermo in 2016, fusing melodic techno, indie, pop, and classical textures into an emotive, genre-defying sound. Quickly establishing creative independence, they founded their own imprint, Diesis Records, in the same year to control their musical output.
Their debut single “Stay Closer” (2017) paved the way for hits like “Endless,” “Paradise to Share,” “How Can I,” and their first album Istantanee (2018). A key track, “Starry Nights,” debuted at India’s massive TimeOut72 festival, signaling their global ambitions. Another highlight followed with “Something Special” via Spinnin’ Records, which led to their first Ibiza residency at Privilege and the release of their follow-up album Night Experience in 2018.
2019 marked a creative peak with a flurry of singles—“Feel Good,” “Blame On Me,” “Inside Your Head,” “Blind,” “Breathing,” and “Emptiness”—alongside innovative covers of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walking” and Peggy Lee’s “Fever.”
Their visionary #DiesisLive series—filmed at breathtaking Sicilian locales like volcanic peaks and ancient theaters—went viral, earning millions of views and cementing their reputation for cinematic, emotionally immersive performances.
In 2020, their track “Habibi” gained critical acclaim, earning a spot in TIME’s Best Songs of the Week and accompanied their sold-out North American tour. They later signed with Ultra Records, gearing up for further global expansion with new EPs and collaborations
