ATB: Trance Pioneer of the Guitar Riff & the Dancefloor Anthem
ATB (born André Tanneberger on February 26, 1973 in Freiberg, East Germany) is a German DJ, producer and trance-music pioneer whose melodic sound and instantly recognizable guitar riff made him one of the defining names in late-1990s dance music.
His breakout single “9 PM (Till I Come)” (1998) became a UK No. 1 hit and is widely regarded as the first trance track to reach the top of the UK chart — the iconic pitched-guitar hook became his signature. He followed it up with further major hits such as “Don’t Stop!” (1999) which reached UK No. 3, and “Ecstasy” (2004).
Over the decades, ATB has released numerous albums, kept a strong touring presence and repeatedly appeared on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list — during the 2009 and 2010 polls he reached No. 11, and even No. 15 in 2011. His 2021 reinterpretation of his classic track — “Your Love (9 PM)” with Topic & A7S — achieved gold or platinum status in multiple countries and reaffirmed his enduring relevance.
Blending euphoric melodies, pitched-guitar riffs, trance-anchored basslines and pop sensibility, ATB remains a celebrated figure of electronic music — a bridge between 90s trance and today’s dance-floor sound.
