Altégo: From Viral Mashups to Global Dance Success
Altégo is a UK-based DJ and production duo formed by twin brothers Michael and Lukas Fernandes-Pense. Drawing on dance, pop, R&B, and hip-hop influences, the duo has developed a distinctive style that combines nostalgic hits with contemporary club production.
Their breakthrough arrived in 2022 with “Toxic Pony,” a creative mashup of Britney Spears’ “Toxic” and Ginuwine’s “Pony.” The track became a global viral sensation, reaching the Top 40 on the U.S. Billboard charts and the Top 10 of Billboard’s R&B chart. It has surpassed 130 million Spotify streams and earned Platinum certifications in Canada and Hungary, as well as Gold certifications in several other countries.
Altégo followed with tracks including “Bling Bling,” “Fiesta,” and “Couldn’t Care Less” featuring Gia Koka. The latter sampled Rednex’s “Cotton Eye Joe” and earned Gold certification in Sweden while charting on Spotify’s Top 200 in several European countries.
Beyond their music, Altégo has built an enormous social-media following, accumulating more than 4 billion TikTok views and millions of followers. Their success has earned praise from Forbes and Variety, while their innovative mashups continue to introduce familiar songs to a new generation of listeners.
