Darude: The Trance Legend Behind “Sandstorm”
Darude, born Toni-Ville Henrik Virtanen, is a Finnish DJ and producer best known for his iconic track “Sandstorm”, which became one of the most recognizable electronic dance music anthems of all time. Released in 1999, the track skyrocketed in popularity, earning platinum and gold certifications worldwide and cementing Darude’s place in trance and progressive house history.
Following the success of “Sandstorm,” Darude released his debut album, ‘Before the Storm’ (2000), which featured other hits like “Feel the Beat” and “Out of Control”. The album received critical and commercial acclaim, leading to multiple awards, including Best Newcomer at the German Dance Awards. Over the years, he continued to evolve his sound with albums like ‘Rush’ (2003), ‘Label This!’ (2007), and ‘Moments’ (2015).
Darude has performed at some of the world’s biggest festivals, including Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, and EDC. He also represented Finland in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest with the track “Look Away”.
With a career spanning over two decades, Darude remains a respected figure in the electronic music scene, delivering high-energy performances and continuing to influence new generations of dance music lovers.
