Let’s meetup for Mario!
Mario: R&B’s Emotional Heartbeat
Mario Dewar Barrett (born August 27, 1986 in Baltimore, Maryland) — better known simply as Mario — is an American R&B singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor who rose to fame in the early 2000s with his powerful vocals, emotive songwriting, and crossover appeal.
Mario signed with J Records at only 14, and in 2002 released his self-titled debut album. Its lead single, “Just a Friend 2002,” was a remake of the Biz Markie classic and cracked the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. His sophomore album Turning Point (2004) brought him global superstardom through the smash hit “Let Me Love You”, written by Ne-Yo, Scott Storch, and Kameron Houff. The song reached No.1 in multiple countries, won two Billboard Music Awards, and earned Mario a Grammy nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
Other notable tracks include “How Do I Breathe”, “Crying Out for Me”, and “Break Up” (featuring Gucci Mane & Sean Garrett), which re-affirmed his presence on the R&B charts. Across his career, Mario has collected numerous nominations — including multiple Grammy nods — plus wins at Billboard and other R&B-focused awards.
In more recent years, Mario has continued releasing music, including Dancing Shadows (2018) and Glad You Came (2024), evolving his sound while staying true to his roots of authentic storytelling and vocal prowess.
