DeAndre Cortez Way, better known by his stage name Soulja Boy, is an American rapper, producer, and entrepreneur who dramatically shaped the sound and culture of hip hop in the 2000s. Born July 28, 1990, in Chicago and raised in Mississippi and Atlanta, he burst into national consciousness in 2007 with his breakout hit “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” — a track that dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks and helped popularize dance-focused hip hop.
Among his other major successes are “Kiss Me thru the Phone”, which peaked at number three on the Hot 100 and sold millions of copies globally, and “Turn My Swag On”, another anthem in his catalog.
