Cosmic Gate: Trance Titans Defining Two Decades of Sound
German duo Cosmic Gate, comprised of Claus Terhoeven (Nic Chagall) and Stefan Bossems (DJ Bossi), burst onto the trance scene in 1999 after a chance studio meeting in Cologne. Their breakthrough came in 2001 with the hard-hitting anthem “Fire Wire”, which climbed to #9 on the UK Singles Chart and became a trance staple.
Other iconic tracks such as “Exploration of Space”, “Be Your Sound” (featuring Emma Hewitt), and “Not Enough Time” cemented their influence—earning critical nods and millions of streams. Their album Earth Mover (2006) marked a shift toward progressive trance and spawned favorites like “I Feel Wonderful”, earning them IDMA nominations.
Over the years, Cosmic Gate released acclaimed albums like Sign of the Times (2009), Wake Your Mind (2011), Start to Feel (2014), and Materia Chapter.One (2017), each expanding their melodic palette and delivering festival-ready tracks such as “Falling Back” and “am2pm.”
Their remix of Gabriel & Dresden’s “Only Road” scored them a Grammy nomination in 2018, making them the first trance artists to be recognized in that category. Frequently featured in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs, they’ve climbed the rankings and earned a reputation as trance’s most enduring duo.
With over 1,000 live performances—including EDC, Ultra, and Tomorrowland—and their beloved Wake Your Mind Radio podcast cemented since 2014, Cosmic Gate continues to fuse emotional melodies with trance energy, shaping the genre for the next generation.
