Andy C: The Drum & Bass Maestro & Genre Vanguard
Andrew Michael Clarke (born April 7 1976), known worldwide as Andy C, is a British DJ, producer, and co-founder of the legendary RAM Records label. Emerging in the early 1990s, Andy C quickly established himself as a pioneer of drum & bass with his alias Origin Unknown. Their 1993 track “Valley of the Shadows” (aka “31 Seconds”) remains a foundational anthem of the genre.
Andy C’s 2001 single “Body Rock”, produced with Shimon, enjoyed crossover success—peaking at #28 on the UK Singles Chart—and became one of the most recognizable tracks in early 2000s drum & bass. He also released tracks like “Heartbeat Loud” featuring Fiora, which cracked the UK charts in 2014.
Over his career, Andy C has amassed more than 35 awards, including repeated Best DJ honors at the Drum & Bass Arena Awards from 2009 through 2018, and was named Ambassador of Bass Music at the 2013 Bass Music Awards. In a historic milestone, he became the first drum & bass artist to sell out Wembley Arena in mere days in 2018.
Renowned for his lightning-fast mixing and signature “double drop” technique—perfectly synchronizing two bass-heavy drops—Andy C revolutionized DJing with performances using three turntables and custom visuals via his Andy C Alive concept. Under his leadership, RAM Records has propelled talents like Sub Focus, Chase & Status, and Wilkinson to global prominence.
With a legacy rooted in innovation, technical mastery, and relentless creativity, Andy C remains a defining force in drum & bass—a visionary whose influence spans decades.
