Wakyin: Afro‑Latin House Visionary
Christian Rivera‑Joaquin, known professionally as Wakyin, is a Dominican‑Puerto Rican house producer and DJ based in Orlando, Florida. Blending merengue, bachata, salsa, and electronic rhythms, his sound evokes both cultural pride and global dancefloor appeal. Having started producing on a jailbroken FL Studio Mobile on an iPod, Wakyin’s passion grew into a serious career after college, fusing his heritage with house grooves that resonate worldwide.
He first gained widespread attention with “Beso (Fruta Fresca),” a vibrant Latin-house single that surpassed 30 million Spotify streams and sparked a TikTok dance phenomenon. The infectious beat and melody made “Fruta Fresca” a breakout anthem in 2024.
In August 2024, Wakyin debuted on Insomniac Records with the afro‑house single “Closer” (feat. Bantu). The track blended soulful guitar, atmospheric piano, and Afro‑Latin rhythms, positioning Wakyin as a rising force in global house music.
Wakyin continued his ascent with “Matador,” a standout 2025 release on Insomniac with Latin Grammy–nominated Vibarco. The melodic house cut features cinematic pads, emotive Spanish lyrics, and thunderous drops—bridging worlds with technical finesse and lyrical weight.
He’s helmed headline shows across the U.S. and Europe—including EDC Orlando, Hocus Pocus Miami, Under the K Bridge NYC, and a landmark debut in Brooklyn at Superior Ingredients in January 2025, where “Fruta Fresca” had already logged over 60 million streams by that date.
With a debut album Caras released in 2023, viral streams, major festival bookings, and a distinctive cultural narrative, Wakyin is charting a trail as a dynamic Afro‑Latin house innovator with a global vision.
