Shiba San: The Ghetto Funk Maestro of House

Born Frédéric Poulet and hailing from Paris, Shiba San emerged from a 15-year career in French hip‑hop to forge a powerful fusion of Chicago house, soul, and funk—what he dubs “ghetto funk”. His breakthrough came in 2014 with “Okay”, a single that dominated Beatport’s House chart for 82 days and stayed in the Top 10 for over 180, earning praise from Pete Tong, Claude VonStroke, and a Rolling Stone nod as a “global club sensation in waiting.”

Shiba San didn’t stop there. His follow-up “Burn Like Fire” won Best Underground Track at the 2015 International Dance Music Awards during Miami Music Week. He later scored another #1 Beatport overall hit with “All I Need” (with Tim Baresko), which topped the chart for over a month and appeared on many “Best of 2018” lists, supported by tastemakers like Calvin Harris and Jack Back.

With over 15 #1 Beatport tracks to his name, DJ Mag France named him “Best of House.” In 2017 he founded his imprint Basement Leak, hosting standout releases and label nights at events like Art Basel Miami, Miami Music Week, Groove Cruise, and Faust in Paris.

A subtle but commanding presence on the festival circuit, Shiba San has wowed crowds at Coachella, EDC Las Vegas, Movement Detroit, BPM Festival, Spring Awakening, and Output in New York. Reddit fans routinely rave about his shows, calling them “non‑stop fun” and “energetic, bouncy house sets… a total pro.”

Remaining enigmatic and letting his music do the talking, Shiba San continues to innovate—not as a product of the scene, but as one of its architects.
