Let’s meetup for YG!
YG: “Young G’s Voice of the Streets”
Born Keenon Dequan Ray Jackson on March 9, 1990, in Compton, California, YG (“Young Gangsta”) rose from local mixtapes to become a defining voice in West Coast hip-hop. His breakout single, “Toot It and Boot It” (feat. Ty Dolla $ign), cracked the Billboard Hot 100 and introduced his raw storytelling style. In 2014, his debut album My Krazy Life debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and spawned hits like “My Nigga” (#19 Hot 100, 5× platinum), “Who Do You Love?”, and “Left, Right.”
His 2016 album Still Brazy drew critical praise for its vivid recounting of street life and resilience following a near-fatal shooting. Then came Stay Dangerous (2018), featuring “Big Bank” (2 Chainz, Big Sean & Nicki Minaj), which became his highest-charting single at No. 16 and was certified quadruple platinum.
In 2022, YG explored personal themes on I Got Issues, with singles like “Toxic” reflecting deeper emotional and relational struggles.
YG’s accolades include a BET Hip-Hop Award for Best Collabo/Track of the Year (“My Hitta”) and multiple nominations across BET, Grammy, iHeartRadio, and MTV EMAs. His resilience and authentic representation of Compton culture have solidified his status as one of modern hip-hop’s most influential voices.
