Diplo, born Thomas Wesley Pentz, is a Grammy-winning DJ, producer, and songwriter known for his genre-blending sound and influential role in popularizing electronic dance music globally. A key figure in the rise of modern EDM, Diplo has collaborated with artists from a range of genres, including Justin Bieber, Beyoncé, and Sia, crafting chart-topping hits and shaping music’s evolving landscape.
He gained initial fame as the founder of Mad Decent, a record label that introduced diverse global sounds to mainstream audiences. In 2009, Diplo formed Major Lazer, a dancehall-inspired group whose hit songs like “Lean On” (with DJ Snake and MØ) and “Cold Water” (with Justin Bieber and MØ) became international anthems, earning billions of streams. His influence expanded further through collaborations with Skrillex under the duo Jack Ü, releasing hits like “Where Are Ü Now” with Justin Bieber, which won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording in 2016.
Diplo’s music spans EDM, pop, hip-hop, and country, as seen in his solo work and his country-inspired project, Thomas Wesley. Known for his dynamic live sets and global impact, Diplo remains one of the most versatile and boundary-pushing producers in modern music.
